British Newspapers website
- The British Newspaper website, managed by Gale Cengage, was launched on [date], containing two million pages of digitised newspapers, mainly from the nineteenth century.
- The site is an essential research resource for anyone interested in national, local and family history, and many other subjects. It includes content from papers of national, regional, and local importance from across the United Kingdom and Ireland. Leading national broadsheets still in publication are not included as the historic archives of these papers are or will be available online elsewhere.
- Anyone can search the website free of charge. Short extracts from the articles can be viewed free. Articles from The Penny Illustrated Paper and The Graphic can be viewed at no cost. For the other papers, you can view up to 100 articles over 24 hours for £6.99 or 200 articles over seven days for £9.99
- A version of this website that is completely free at the point of use is available for people in UK higher and further education, in some UK public libraries, and in some institutions in other countries. Please contact your library to find out about access.
